Demo Day

David Ducrest of Yeastir describes the inspiration behind the invention

Members of the Four Athens startup community gathered this week for a lunchtime Demo Day to learn about product improvements, business struggles, and favorite tools from their entrepreneurial peers. Five startup companies set up product demonstrations around the room for fellow members to peruse and explore while enjoying lunch from Athens favorites Your Pie and Hip Pops.

The five member companies at Demo Day were:

Vestigo – a web platform connecting outdoor enthusiasts to share their passion for adventure

LiveSyphon – film production services for live music

moveBuddha – search platform for moving information and booking a move online

Southeast Solutions – custom software development, repair, and maintenance services

Yeastir – USB stir plates for yeast starters

During the event, each startup gave a brief presentation to the crowd of 20+ Four Athens member companies and guests, highlighting different aspects of their startup experience, including production and marketing challenges, various pivot points over the course of their business, and favorite tools essential to their success and sanity.

Some common themes emerged from the Q&A discussions with each presenter. Several touched upon the awesome power and value of web analytics to track customer paths and manage marketing pipelines. Customer discovery was stressed several times as an essential and ongoing contribution to the product design and development process. Another theme was the value of high-touch customer service and relationship building as a key part of distinguishing a product or brand in the marketplace

In addition to Google Analytics, other favorite tools shared by demoers included Mixpanel for tracking user experience, Streak as an affordable CRM for gmail clients, Trello for project management and remote team communication, and a variety of web and mobile apps that make the unpredictable day in the life of a tech startup just a little bit easier to navigate.

With over 50 active member companies, Four Athens continues to bolster the thriving local tech startup and small business community through relationship building and lesson sharing opportunities like Demo Day. The talent, energy, innovation, dedication, and resilience of the startup founders and entrepreneurs that are part of Four Athens makes this startup community unique to our town, and remains at the heart of its success.
